Why your device can't open .msg files
A .msg file is one email saved by Microsoft Outlook for Windows, in Outlook's own format. Macs, iPhones, Android phones and webmail don't read that format, so the file looks broken or opens as gibberish. This viewer reads it in your browser instead, so you don't need Outlook, a Windows computer or an app.
How to open a .msg file on a MacOpen a .msg file on your phone or Mac
iPhone and iPad
In Mail, press and hold the attachment and choose Save to Files. Then tap the box above and pick it.
Android
Download the attachment, then tap the box above and pick it from Downloads.
Mac
Drag the .msg file from Finder or from Mail onto the box above.
Save, print or share it
Once open in full, free up to 2 MB or unlocked, the email is yours to keep. Save it as an exact PDF with a clean header and page numbers, print it straight from the page, or save any attachment on its own. After saving a PDF, a QR code sends it to your phone, encrypted, so you can share it from there. The link expires after 24 hours.
Is it safe to open confidential emails?
Yes. Emails often hold contracts, invoices and personal details, so this tool works inside your browser. The file is opened on your own device, and we never see it. Scripts in an email are removed and it is shown in a sealed frame, so a harmful email cannot run code on your computer.
Questions about opening .msg files
Do I need Outlook?
No. The viewer runs in Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on any computer or phone.
Do you see my email?
No. The file is opened in your browser, so we never see your email.
Can I save the email as a PDF?
Yes. After opening it, choose Save as PDF for an exact, cleanly laid out copy with its attachments.
Why can't I see some pictures?
Some emails load pictures from the internet, which can tell the sender you opened it. We hold those back until you choose to load them.
Can I open an encrypted .msg file?
Emails encrypted with S/MIME can only be opened with the recipient's private key, so we'll tell you if a file is encrypted.
Can I open a .msg file on a Chromebook?
Yes. Open this page in Chrome, then drop the file or choose it from Files.
Why does an old email look plainer?
Some older emails are stored as rich text. They are shown as formatted text, and very complex layouts may be simplified.
What does it cost?
One email up to 2 MB is free, every time. Bigger emails are $1.99 each, after a free preview (up to 3 previews a day on each device). A 24-hour pass is $6.99 for unlimited emails and batch. Pro is $12.99 a month, or $89 a year. The one-time passes never renew.
